I have a problem that I should solve for my son. I decided to move from Jincheon where I had lived to Cheongju. I have to find the kindergarten where my son would go to from the next March. I just wanted my son to go to a public kindergarten near my new house whose tuition is very reasonable, but they say they already booked in October. I know it's too late to find a kindergarten. I asked the other private kindergaten. In the private kindergaten, they have extra classes such as art, physical education, and English. It is also expensive because of extra class. However English kindergarten's tuition is much more expensive. It is 480,000 won per month. I was so shocked. I can't afford to pay for it and I don't want my son to go there. I think children should learn Korean earlier than English, read many books, and play as much as they can.
What do you think about that? Is English kindergarten necessary in Korea?

hmmm. As a language teacher I could say that getting an exposure to Englsih as a early age can be advantageous. However, it depends on situation. I agree children should play, learn in nature. If sending your son to an English kindergarten make you and your family stressed out, I don't think it is a good idea. Your son may need your care more than an English input in a kindergarten.
Joanna! You can be a great input for your son's Englih learning. Dance with him to some English songs. Laugh with him a lot so that he can appreciate the joy of learning English.
Joanna,
I think you don't have to send your son to English kindergarten.
I agree with your idea that children should play, read many books if possible. I feel sorry for the children who don't know how to play.
I don't think English kindergarten is necessary. Young kids are too young to study English. I saw many students who was good at English although they started to study English not that early. So, Don't worry about it, and just let your son read lots of books.
How was your weekend? Great? so so? Anyway,I agree Lynn's opinion that getting exposure to English early is important. But the methods are more important. In many cases, unqualified teachers may spoil the English education. I can't believe most English Kindergartens. Please be careful. If you search had, you can find a good one. Cheer up!
Thank you for your advice. I'll keep in mind it.
